Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency, a site which features video and posts on the representations of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency explores how women are depicted in popular media. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture she also seeks to bring attention to targeted exploitation of women and other marginalized classes of people in the online world. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality since a early stage of her life. In 2009, while continuing to study at the university level she launched her Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious lady planned to create a web series that would examine gender-based representations in video games. She was the subject of a harassment online campaign. She was not deterred by the harassment, actually, it just reinforced her desire to become a media critic and feminist. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminists are recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning journalist. She also serves as the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
